About

Hello!

This doofy-looking guy is me. My name is Ian Farnam; I am a London-based type designer and lettering artist. I create fonts for retail and custom projects. I have a special interest in italics and optical sizing (how to make fonts feel the same at large and small sizes). I have experience working in Latin, Greek, Cyrillic, and Arabic.

I grew up in the Twin Cities, where I first discovered my love for letterforms as an undergraduate student at The University of Minnesota. After several years working as a graphic designer making fonts on the side, I decided to pursue a Master’s in Typeface Design from the University of Reading. Since graduating, I have been living in London, working independently as a typeface designer.

In fall 2025, I released my first font AM Toscana through CAST Foundry as part of their Alfabeti Modernisti Project, a series of Italian wood type fonts from the early twentieth century revived for digital use.

This foundry site showcases and promotes my fonts. As of now, this is the only place you can find most of them.
